News

News from Dardanelli, about new products, new materials, new machines and printers or CNC machines and other things we think is worthwhile sharing.

We are closed for holidays from 11 to 19 August 2018. We re-open on Monday the 19th of August.

Happy holidays!

Our production and graphics staff plays football every week (5 against 5). The idea was born to organise the Darda Cup one evening and all have dinner together.

The purple team has won.

A fun and very sporty evening!

In a few days we will start producing on this new 5 meter printer. Our HP has done many years of excellent service, but in the mean time, technology has evolved ... and with this Durst 5 meter printer we have a very powerful new machine.

On the picture you can see the Durst on the left. It is huge. On the right you can see our Fuji 5 meter printer.

We have bought, with great pleasure, a new cutting machine for our wallpapers, from Fotoba. This machine is a great help hen cutting wallpaper because it follows in detail the output of our printers. Below a few images of the new Fotoba while it is at work.

We will be open during all normal working days.

Happy holidays and new year!

Auguri per le feste da Dardanelli

We are often visiting producers and resellers of wide format printing machines to keep updated on our technology. Often the first test they show us is how well the printer is printing a map of London (or any other city for that matter). Every printer will print this map perfectly and very fast and if one would not know better, one would buy the printer immediately. It is wonderful to see how well the map comes out, with great detail, all street names well visible and all roads colored in rightly and very nice green parks.

However, with our experience we know very well that printing a map is easy. Printing a colored background is difficult! Therefore, we always bring our own files that are notoriously difficult to print and ... not all wide format printers manage to print these files well. These are indeed difficult files to print, but often our clients have files of this kind, with vast backgrounds in one color. Therefore, being able to print this kind of file is of utmost importance.

One tip therefore for all those who need to find a good wide format printer ... bring your own files with difficult background to print as a test. This below is an example (the file is 150 cm wide)

We visited the Italian tradeshow for wide format printing 'Viscom'. We have spoken with various producers of the wide, 5 meter format printers and also some distributors. It seems like there are interesting developments both in the development of inks as well as in the UV-Led technology.

We have also found some new material that we are really interested in. We will start to do some tests soon and if the materials live up to our standards, we will add them to our website.

We even had a look at an automatic cutting machine for flexible materials that we really like. Again here we will have to do some tests and compare with other brands and then we will decide.

It looks like this year's Viscom tradeshow attrcked more visitors than last year's and there were also more stands. This was a pleasure to see.

All in all it was a great day that will make us reflect a lot and also dream a little ...

We have been talking about this already since a long time, but now finally our online shop has gone live. You can buy our large dimension prints now also through our webshop. We do not yet have all materials online, but we will be adding them bit by bit,

SHOP BIG PRINTS

In the past it was not very easy to print materials to be illuminated from the back, great precision was required and various materials mixed. In the meantime technology has changed and so have the printing materials. Right now making this kind of prints is easy and a lot cheaper.

We are printing, right now, two special materials that are especially designed for being backlit. One is a bit heavier but easy to manage, it is called Artist Heavy. The other material is called Artist Light and it is lighter but only experts can stretch it without damaging, it needs some knowledge and experience.

Normally we print the backlit prints in two passages. This way the colours end up being brilliant and full despite there being a light directly behind. The colours of the prints made this way are a bit darker when there is no light behind, therefore this technique is best used when the print will be always lit from the back when in use.

The backlit material is made from very thin polyester that lets light pass without leavings signs of the woven pattern. The surface is coated such that the light spreads very well. The effect of the backlit prints is wonderful and more and more architects are using the backlit prints for interior design, for example in hotels, halls, business entrances, gyms, in restaurants, etc. Backlit prints have been used since a long time in trade shows and for indoor and outdoor publicity, in special light boxes.

Apart from the beauty of the backlit materials, they also are made such that they remain perfectly stretched, also in very wide prints, because the thermal dilatation is minimal.

The backlit material can be mounted, stapling it to a wooden frame that sits on top of the light box. The distance between the lights and the material has to be around 25-30 cm to get an even distribution of light and the distance between the lights should be between 40/50 cm.

We will be closed from Monday the 14th of August until Friday the 18th of August 2017. We re-open on Monday the 21th of August.

Happy summer holiday!
